Executive Management

Michael Medline
President and Chief Executive Officer
Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited

A seasoned retail veteran with a passion for innovation, Michael Medline’s career at Canadian Tire has been marked by bold strategic thinking, creative ideas and a steadfast drive to keep the Company on offence.

Michael has led many of the Company's most strategic initiatives, including leading the Company’s relationships with its Associate Dealers, the acquisition of Mark's in 2002, the acquisition of the Forzani Group in 2011, and the acquisition of Pro Hockey Life in 2012.

Since assuming the role of CEO, Michael has infused a culture of aggressive innovation at Canadian Tire, one designed to enable the ‘old world’ of retail to rise up to meet the rapidly changing mobile and digital expectations of customers.

Michael is spearheading investments in digital across the organization, transforming how the business approaches technology, eCommerce, digital marketing, content creation, and store concepts, with the stated goal of making Canadian Tire Corp. the most innovative retailer in the world.

Michael is well known for driving change and building teams that deliver results and put points up on the board. While leading FGL Sports, Michael’s focus on innovation fundamentally changed the way the business unit operated, resulting in FGL Sports becoming the fastest growing retailer anywhere in North America.

Throughout his 15-year tenure at Canadian Tire, Michael has directly led the operations of many of the Company's business units, including Petroleum, PartSource and Canadian Tire's Automotive division, Dealer Relations, FGL Sports and Mark's. Michael was appointed President of the Company in 2013 and became its Chief Executive Officer in 2014.

Michael is passionate about sports and has embedded a brand-led culture across the Company, with a focus on what the power of sport can do to inspire employees, customers, and families in need.  Michael has been a champion for the Company’s charity, Jumpstart, which has now helped more than one million children from financially disadvantaged families get into organized sports.

In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Michael is Chairman of the Board of the Retail Council of Canada, a member of the Board of Governors of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and Honourary Chair of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame 2015 Induction Celebrations and a board member of SickKids Foundation. Michael holds an MBA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, an LL.B. from the University of Toronto, and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
