Your Qualifications While successful Dealers come from a variety of backgrounds, there are a number of characteristics that they share. Our selection process is designed to identify these qualities.
The candidates we are looking for are well-rounded individuals who have a positive attitude for success and the passion and dedication necessary to excel. Self-motivation is key. It means you are ready to commit, be proactive, deliver results, and continue learning and growing. While we ask that you demonstrate a degree of business and financial acumen, specific retail experience is not essential. We look at the skills and knowledge you have gained in other industries and see how they can be transferred to retail.
Your Investment Along with a good mix of experience and personal characteristics, we are seeking candidates willing to make a personal and financial investment. You will need a minimum of $125,000 of accessible capital to become a Dealer. In addition, as a successful dealer candidate, you will be charged a Dealer training and development fee of $100,000 upon receiving your first store. This non-refundable fixed fee can be financed.
Canadian Tire enters into personal contracts exclusively with one Dealer; therefore partnership and/or joint applications are not accepted. A candidate will be required to submit his or her personal statement of net worth. Silent partners are not recognized and would have no legal claim on goods/fixtures in the store or the property.
The Next Steps:
Online Application Go to the “Apply Now” page and complete our initial phase. Once successfully completed, our Dealer starter kit will be mailed to you.
Application and Financial Information Form Submission Please answer the application questions in full and complete the financial information form included in the starter kit. Our Dealer selection team reviews all applications and contacts promising candidates. An application form cannot be processed until the completed and signed application and financial information forms are returned by mail.
Telephone Interview and Online Assessment If you advance to this step, your business acumen and leadership abilities will be assessed in a telephone interview. A Canadian Tire Dealer selection representative will contact you to conduct a Stage 1 telephone interview. Timing: Approximately three to four weeks after application is received.
Home Office Interviews Candidates who are determined to have high potential will then be invited to our Toronto home office for a set of face-to-face Stage 2 interviews. You will meet with an operational vice-president to discuss your technical and business awareness and also with human resources representatives to assess your behavioural qualities. Timing: Approximately 6 to 8 weeks after results from Stage 1.
Panel Interview During this final step, you will again be invited to Toronto for a Stage 3 interview with a panel comprised of our senior leadership team and representatives of our Dealer network. These interviews are timed according to store availability. Timing: Based on store availability.
Canadian Tire Corporation does not provide any assurance or guarantee that any applicant will be accepted into the Canadian Tire Dealer training program and/or that an applicant will receive a Canadian Tire store until all elements of the selection and training process have been completed to the satisfaction of Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited, in its sole discretion. |
