We All Play for Canada: Canadian Tire Corporation celebrates Tokyo 2020 athletes and paves the way for future Olympic and Paralympic stars

July 23, 2021

From the playground to the podium, Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) is proud to support sport and play at all levels. We’re extremely excited to be there for our Team Canada athletes as they return to the world stage this summer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Together, we will cheer on our partner athletes Matt Berger (Skateboarding), Aaron Brown (Athletics), Leylah Fernandez (Tennis), Rosie MacLennan (Trampoline – Gymnastics), Skylar Park (Taekwondo), Alannah Yip (Sport Climbing), Nicolas-Guy Turbide (Para Swimming) and Kate O’Brien (Para Track Cycling). We’re also cheering extra loud for Sport Chek’s partner athletes Kayla Alexander (Basketball), Patrick Anderson (Wheelchair Basketball), Jenna Caira (Softball), Desiree Scott (Soccer), and Sports Experts athletes Meaghan Benfeito (Diving) and Laurence Vincent-Lapointe (Canoe Sprint).

Sports fans across the country can join us in celebrating our Canadian athletes by downloading the Team Canada Olympic App to stay up to date with Olympic news, and by visiting our athlete-inspired Canadian Tire Celebration Walls, which will be showcased in select communities across the country (Toronto, King City, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary and Vancouver). In Kamloops and Winnipeg, CTC has commissioned local artists to paint murals to commemorate Matt Berger and Skylar Park’s inaugural Olympic journeys, to be revealed post-Games to family and friends. All of our stores will be proudly sporting Canada’s colours this summer, too.

At CTC, we do more than cheer from the sidelines. This year, we are proud to announce that local Canadian Tire Dealers will be making a $10,000 donation to community sport organizations in the hometowns of each of our Canadian Tire partner athletes, so that more kids can access sport and experience the value of play.

CTC also recently announced that our partnership with the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees have been extended for another eight years.

“There is immense pride in knowing that by supporting grassroots community sports and forging this iconic Team Canada partnership, Canadian Tire is realizing its purpose of being there for Canadians,” said Kim Saunders, Vice President ESG Strategy and Community Impact. “When we support play and the values learned through sport, we are playing for something bigger than ourselves: We all play for Canada!”
